How to Buy a Real Registered Driver's License
Over the decades the law enforcement community has tried a variety methods to combat fake IDs. Holograms, water marks, bar-coding and dual photos have been used but they can all be defeated by sophisticated counterfeiters.
Two documents proving New York State residence are required to obtain a REAL or enhanced ID. Examples include your current license or non-driver ID, utility bill, bank statement or pay stubs.
Real Documents Unit
The Real Documents Unit processes and renews licenses for those who are not eligible for an ID card for drivers or a non-driver identification card because of medical issues. This process involves examining the medical history of the individual and determining if they are qualified to drive. If they are not, the person's license may be revoked or suspended.
A person is considered to be suffering from a medical condition that affects their driving ability if the doctor or nurse treating them writes a report indicating that they cannot safely drive or are not planning to drive again. The DMV can use this report to impose restrictions on a license for drivers, or to suspend or remove a driver's license.
To get a real registered driver's license You must present documents that prove your identity and address. These documents must be current and official. The kind of document you can use to prove your address consists of an utility bill, bank statement, lease agreement or pay stubs. You could also use a copy of your Social Security Card to confirm your address and identity. A letter from your physician informing you that you are unable to drive or do not intend to drive is acceptable as well.

After your application is completed, you can go to any Secretary State Driver Services facility for your photograph and any required exams. After your documents have been verified and reviewed, you will receive a new permanent standard ID or DL card via mail within 15 working days.
Real Driver's License
The Real Driver's Licenses are a new type of identification that is compatible with the federal Real ID Act. The act established minimum security standards for state-issued driver's licenses permits, ID cards and permits and also prohibits federal agencies such as the Transportation Security Administration from accepting any card that doesn't meet these standards. In October 2017, the DMV began the process of releasing Real IDs, which look different from standard driver's licenses and feature an image of a star printed on the front. The enhanced ID has the radio frequency (RF) chip that authorities can read at border checkpoints from up to 30 feet. The IDs also have a machine-readable zone and barcode that authorities can read manually if the RFID chip isn't working.
For domestic travel people who don't wish to obtain a Real ID can use their current license or one that's expired. If they want to fly or enter federal structures they'll require a government-approved form of ID, such as a military ID or passport. They can also purchase the passport at their local post office for less than what they would pay for a real ID at the DMV.
If you decide to apply for an Real or enhanced ID, you will need to visit the DMV office to apply. You cannot order them on the internet, over the telephone, or through mail. You need to bring these documents to your local DMV. They are documents that prove identity such as driver's license, passport or birth certificate; evidence of Social Security Number or ineligibility for Social Security Number; proof date of birth; two other evidences of New York state residence. You should also possess a valid photo.
If you'd like to be sure that your new Real or enhanced ID meets all the requirements, you can check its status on the DMV's website. You can also find out how to renew it if you have to. It is important to know that the New York enhanced or real ID will cost more than a standard driver's license. This is due to the added security features and appearance. A new bill has been introduced that would waive the normal transaction fee for individuals who obtain an enhanced or Real ID, but it isn't yet in place. Make sure to budget accordingly until. It is recommended to get a Real or upgraded ID is well worth it especially if you frequently travel. This is especially the case if you plan to fly domestically. You will feel more secure at airports and in your destination thanks to the additional security features.
